Abstract:
Provided is an organic EL element that includes a hole injection layer with which a satisfactory hole conduction efficiency can be obtained.
The organic EL element (1) comprises an anode (2) and a cathode (6) and, disposed therebetween, functional layers (4 and 5) comprising an organic material and a hole injection layer (3) for injecting holes into the functional layers (4 and 5). The hole injection layer (3) is a metal oxide film comprising a metal oxide, and the metal element as a component of the metal oxide is contained in the metal oxide film in the state of having the highest valence which the metal element can have and in the state of having a valence lower than the highest valence. The metal oxide film comprises crystals (9) of the metal oxide which have a grain diameter on the order of nanometer.
