Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing an organic EL element and a production method therefor, the organic EL element having a high rate of nitridization and a gas barrier layer that has excellent gas barrier characteristics. In the present invention, an organic electroluminescence element is an organic electroluminescence element wherein a pair of electrodes and an organic functional layer that is located between the pair of electrodes are provided upon a substrate. The organic electroluminescence element is provided with at least one gas barrier layer that covers the pair of electrodes and the organic functional layer, and is characterized in that the gas barrier layer is a silicon oxynitride vapor-deposited film that is formed by depositing silicon oxide while nitrogen gas is supplied and in that the mean value of the atomic composition ratio of nitrogen to oxygen (N/O) measured at each of a plurality of different locations on the silicon oxynitride vapor-deposited film is within a range of 1.0-2.4.
