Abstract:
Provided is an organic electroluminescent element (1) comprising a luminescent region (5), a first positive-electrode-side organic layer (61), a second positive-electrode-side organic layer (62), and a third positive-electrode-side organic layer (63) which are provided between a negative electrode (3) and a positive electrode (3), wherein: the luminescent region (5) includes at least one luminescent layer (50); the second positive-electrode-side organic layer contains at least one compound which is different from a compound contained in the third positive-electrode-side organic layer; the thickness of the third positive-electrode-side organic layer (63) is 20 nm or more; the difference NM2-NM3 between the refractive index NM2 of a constituent material contained in the second positive-electrode-side organic layer (62) and the refractive index NM3 of a constituent material contained in a third positive-electrode-side organic layer (63) satisfies the relation represented by expression (N1).　(N1): NM2-NM3≥0.05
