An organic EL element (1) in which: a first light-emitting layer (51) contains a first compound as a first host material and a first light-emitting compound; a second light-emitting layer (52) contains a second compound as a second host material and a second light-emitting compound; the triplet energy T1 (H1) of the first host material and the triplet energy T1 (H2) of the second host material satisfy the relationship of numerical formula (1A); a first electron transport layer (71) contains a third compound; and the difference in the affinity value Af (HX) of the host material contained in the light emitting layer arranged on the cathode (4) side among the first light-emitting layer (51) and the second light-emitting layer (52) and the affinity value Af (M3) of the third compound satisfies the relationship of numerical formula (2A).
