Provided is an organic matter decomposing machine that accelerates the decomposition of organic matter while producing extremely little post-decomposition waste products such as wastewater and residue. The organic matter decomposing machine is provided with: a cuboid housing (10) which has a two-layer structure formed from an outside wall (11) and inside wall (12) in contact with a bottom wall (14) and sealably accommodates organic matter in a first space (a) defined by the inside wall (14); a pair of metal plates (33) laid on the bottom wall; a pair of dividing plates (30) which are disposed covering a connecting portion of the outside wall and inside wall and form together with the inside wall a second space (b) in communication with the first space; a plurality of intake pipes (20) for introducing ionized air into the second space from outside of the housing; through holes (13) providing communication between a third space (c) formed between the inside wall and the outside wall and the first space; a first superheated steam device (60) for converting liquefied pyroligneous acid (51) recovered from the third space into superheated steam and sending the result to the first space, said pyroligneous acid (51) being produced from steam arising from decomposition of organic matter in the first space; and a discharge opening (71) for discharging part of the steam discharged into the third space to the outside of the housing.
