Abstract:
An orthogonal drive device has a pair of fixed frames (10), movable frames (20),
sliders (30) for carrying work heads (60), X-axis drive mechanisms (40), and
Y-axis drive mechanisms (50). Each slider (30) is movably supported facing
the outer surface (22) of the movable frame. Each X-axis drive mechanism (40)
has an X-axis drive motor (42) disposed along an end lower surface (25) of the movable
frame and also has an X-axis flexible cable (47) disposed along the upper surface
(11) of the fixed frame. Each Y-axis drive mechanism (50) has a Y-axis drive motor
(52) secured to the slider so as to be vertically positioned adjacent to the outer
surface (22) of the movable frame and also has a Y-axis flexible cable (57) disposed
along the upper surface (21) of the movable frame. Consequently, the movable
areas of the work heads (60) in the XY-plane can be increased by effectively utilizing
dead spaces above and below the movable frames and fixed frames.
