Abstract:
An outboard motor (1) includes: a drive shaft (17) that transfers rotational power from an engine (13); a shift device (4) provided midway along the drive shaft (17); and a water pump (7) that supplies cooling water to the engine (13). The drive shaft (17) is formed of a first input shaft (171) through which rotational power is transferred from the engine (13), and a second input shaft (172) through which rotational power is transferred from the first input shaft (171). The shift device (4) includes: an upper gear (41) that rotates together with the first input shaft (171); an intermediate gear (42) that is continuously engaged with the upper gear (41); and an intermediate shaft (43) that extends rearward from the intermediate gear (42) and rotates together with the intermediate gear (42). An oil pump (6), which is an auxiliary device, operates according to rotational power transferred to the intermediate shaft (43).
