This outdoor unit for an air conditioner is provided with: a housing constituting the shell of the outdoor unit; a partition plate provided within the housing and separating the space in the housing into a blower compartment for housing a heat exchanger and a blower and into a machine compartment for housing a compressor; an electrical component box for housing an electrical component which controls the outdoor unit and mounted on the partition plate; and a motor support member for supporting the blower and disposed between the blower and the heat exchanger. The electrical component box has a board holder for housing a control board on which the electrical component is mounted. The motor support member has a plate-like top surface section disposed above the blower. The substrate holder has formed thereon an engagement protrusion protruding into the blower compartment. The top surface section has a housing section formed so that a part of an edge of the top surface section protrudes into the housing section. The housing section is disposed between the engagement protrusion and the heat exchanger, and the engagement protrusion and the housing section are affixed.
