Abstract:
This outer circumference coating material contains colloidal silica, silicon carbide and titanium oxide having a particle diameter different from that of the silicon carbide, and is applied to the outer circumferential surface of a honeycomb structure 10 so as to form an outer circumferential layer 20, said honeycomb structure 10 being integrally formed by extrusion molding and being mainly composed of a cordierite having a porosity of 50-75%. An outer circumference-coated structure 30 comprises: a honeycomb structure 10 that is provided with a grid-like porous partition wall 33 which defines and forms a plurality of polygonal cells 32 that constitute flow channels and extend from one end face 31a to the other end face 31b; and an outer circumferential layer 20 that is formed by applying the outer circumference coating material to at least a part of the outer circumferential surface 11 of the honeycomb structure 10.
