Abstract:

To provide a structure for a steering column device, the structure enabling a portion (33) in which an inner column (10a) is fitted and held to be expanded and contracted with a small force, thereby improving the operability of adjusting the position of a steering wheel (4). A slit (19a) which is provided in the lower surface of the front part of an outer column (11a) is configured from: a primary slit section (36) which extends in the axial direction; and a secondary slit section (37) which is formed in the circumferential direction at the front end of the primary slit section (36) and which has a rear edge in which the front end of the primary slit section (36) is open. The circumferential distance of one of both circumferential ends of the secondary slit section (37) from the primary slit section (36) is greater than the circumferential distance of the other circumferential end from the primary slit section (36), and as a result, the widthwise rigidity of one widthwise half section of the outer column (11a), the one widthwise half section being a section where one section (20a) to be gripped is located, is lower than the widthwise rigidity of the other widthwise half section where the other section (20b) to be gripped is located.
