The opening/closing of a looper cover and a side cover and the switching state of thread passing are detected by a single switch. This overlock sewing machine comprises: a looper cover detection member, which is actuated by a looper cover that transitions from a closed state to an open state, and moves from a non-switching position to a switching position, a switching member being actuated at the switching position so as to switch a thread-passing mechanism to a sewing-ready state; a side cover detection member, which is actuated by a side cover that transitions from a closed state to an open state, and which moves from a non-detection position to a detection position; and a lever, which is connected to the looper cover detection member and the side cover detection member, the lever transitioning between a pressing state in which an actuating projection is pressed in accordance with the state of actuation of the looper cover detection member and the side cover detection member, and a non-pressing state in which the actuating projection is not pressed. The lever assumes a pressing state when the looper cover detection member moves to the switching position and the side cover detection member moves to the detection position.
