Abstract:
Substrates (such as cycloalkalnes, polycyclic hydrocarbons or aromatic compounds having methyl or methylene adjacent to their respective aromatic rings) are converted into oxides (such as ketones, alcohols or carboxylic acids) through oxygenation in the presence of an oxidation catalyst system comprising an imide compound of general formula (1) (such as N-hydroxyphthalimide) and a co-catalyst containing an element selected from the group consisting of group 2A elements of the periodic table, transition metals (group 3A to 7A, 8, 1B and 2B elements of the periodic table) and group 3B elements of the periodic table (except phosphovanadomolybdic acid) (wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen or a substituent such as halogen, or alternatively R1 and R2 may be united to form a double bond or an aromatic or non-aromatic 5- to 12-membered ring; X is O or OH; and n is 1 to 3).
