Abstract:
A polypeptide having a &Dgr 5 fatty acid unsaturating activity; a polynucleotide coding for the polypeptide; and use thereof. There is provided, for example, a polypeptide having a &Dgr 5 fatty acid unsaturating activity, which has (a) an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2 or (b) an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2 having undergone one or more amino acids substitution, deletion, insertion or addition. Further, there are provided an antibody capable of binding to this polypeptide; a polynucleotide coding for the polypeptide; a vector containing this polynucleotide; a cell or transformant having the polynucleotide inserted therein; a process for producing a fatty acid with the use of this cell; etc.
