Abstract:
A process for the preparation of $g(b)-amino alcohols in syn configuration as represented by the general formula (2): R¿a?C*H(OH)-C*H(R¿b?)-R¿c? [wherein R¿a? and R¿c? are each optionally substituted alkyl or the like; R¿b? is a group selected from among those represented by the formulae (3) to (6): (3)R?1¿CO(R?2¿)N-, (4)R?1¿CO(R?1'¿CO)N-, (5)R?1¿SO¿2?(R?2¿)N-, and (6)R?1¿R?2¿N- (wherein R?1¿, R?1'¿, and R?2¿ are each optionally substituted alkyl or the like); and C* represents an asymmetric carbon atom], which comprises reacting an a-aminocarbonyl compound of the general formula (1): R¿a?-CO-CH(R¿b?)-R¿c? with hydrogen or a hydrogen donor in the presence of a transition metal compound and a base.
