Abstract:

A process for producing 7&agr -hydroxypregn-4-en-3-one-20-carbaldehyde, characterized in that a microorganism which belongs to the genus Alcaligenes and acts on 3&agr ,7&agr -dihydroxy-5ß-cholanic acid and/or a salt thereof as a substrate to produce 7&agr -hydroxypregn-4-en-3-one-20-carbaldehyde is cultured in a medium containing 3&agr ,7&agr -dihydroxy-5ß-cholanic acid and/or a salt thereof.
