Abstract:

A process for producing tert-leucine characterized by reacting tert-leucine with a substituted benzenesulfonic acid represented by the following general formula (1): (1) (wherein R1 and R2 each independently represents hydrogen, alkyl, or halogeno, provided that at least one of R1 and R2 is not hydrogen) in a solvent to obtain a tert-leucine/substituted benzesulfonic acid salt represented by the following general formula (2): (2) (wherein R1 and R2 are the same as defined above), separating the salt by crystallization, and then decomposing the salt. In this tert-leucine production process, a tert-leucine salt sparingly soluble in a solvent is formed and then crystallized. Thus, the tert-leucine can be efficiently recovered from the solvent.
