Abstract:
A process for the production of 'alpha'-olefin oligomers by oligomerizing an 'alpha'-olefin in a reaction fluid containing a chromium catalyst prepared by bringing a chromium compound (a), a pyrrole compound (b), an alkylaluminum compound (c) and a halogen compound (d) into contact with each other, wherein the chromium catalyst is one prepared by bringing the components (b), (c) and (d) into contact with each other in a solvent comprising a hydrocarbon and/or a halogenated hydrocarbon and then bringing the component (a) into contact with the obtained mixed fluid, or one prepared by bringing the components (a), (b), (c) and (d) into contact with each other in the absence of 'alpha'-olefin in a solvent comprising a hydrocarbon and/or a halogenated hydrocarbon with the concentration of the chromium compound in the mixed fluid being adjusted to 8 x 10-3 mol/l or below. The above process permits the production of 'alpha'-olefin oligomers such as 1-hexene from 'alpha'-olefins such as ethylene in high yields and at high selectivity.
