A configuration for accommodating a plurality of food items placed in a plurality of overlapping rows to the front and rear, wherein a packaging container is provided that allows each food item to be easily picked out and the container to be made more compact. Gum (40) (plate-shaped strips) as a food item can be aligned side-by-side in an upright state and accommodated in a front chamber (L) and a rearwardly positioned rear chamber (B) in a sliding packaging container (A). The rear chamber (B) is combined with the front chamber (L) so as to be able to slide upward relative to the front chamber (L). For that reason, the gum (40) in the rear row can be placed above the gum (40) in the front row and picked out with ease by sliding the rear chamber (B) upward relative to the front chamber (L) only when necessary without providing a raising portion to the rear side of the packaging container (A) in advance and placing the gum (40) in the rear row (rear chamber (B)) above the gum (40) in the front row (front chamber (L)). The packaging container (A) can thereby be made more compact because the raising portion does not need to be provided.
