Abstract:

Packing which is used in filling the gap between adjacent members. The packing is made of a packing material such as a flexible graphite sheet (1) cut into a width of 5 mm or smaller and having a surface covered with a fiber; a sheet obtained by cutting the flexible graphite sheet (1) into a width of 5 mm or smaller, laminating the cut sheet (1) and at least one of a reinforcing fiber (2) and a foil (7), and covering the surface of the laminate with the fiber; or a rod-shaped product (8) obtained by mixing flexible graphite particles as a main material with at least one of short fiber, rubber, resin and lubricant and covering its surface with the fiber. In this manner, it is possible to obtain a packing material which can be twisted or knitted and to produce a packing from this material. There is thus disclosed a string-shaped packing which eliminates the necessary of producing many kinds of packings tailored to the size of members.
