Abstract:
The invention relates to the field of wireless communication technology, and specifically, to a paging method, apparatus, and system. The invention resolves a problem of a limited number of tracking area identities (TAI) being unable to meet the increasing demand of a hot spot number. The method comprises: when a plurality of nonadjacent hot spot areas in a local network are enabled to share a common tracking area identity, and upon receiving a downlink data packet notification message transmitted by a gateway apparatus, a mobile management network element determines, according to the downlink data packet notification message, a first hot spot area, and transmits to a first base station serving the first hot spot area a paging message to request the first base station to initiate paging to UE.
