Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a paper additive having a superior effect for increasing paper thickness while imparting size performance, and a method for producing paper having enhanced paper thickness by using the paper additive. A paper additive characterized by containing a compound (A) obtained by reacting a polyalkylene polyamine (a) having three or more amino groups per molecule, a C8-C22 monovalent fatty acid (b), a polyvalent carboxylic acid (c), a urea (d), and an alkylating agent (e). The compound (A) preferably has a carboxyl group or a salt thereof.
