Abstract:

A paper feeder comprises a sender-side ultrasonic sensor (17) for outputting ultrasonic waves, a drive circuit (41) for supplying a drive signal to the sender-side ultrasonic sensor (17) to drive the same, a receiver-side ultrasonic sensor (18) opposed to the sender-side ultrasonic sensor (17) across a transfer path in the paper feeder so as to receive ultrasonic waves, a setting means (26) for setting a threshold value for detection of transfer of a plurality of paper sheets (100) with the output from the receiver-side ultrasonic sensor (18) used as a reference when the sender-side ultrasonic sensor (17) stops outputting, and a detection means (26) for detecting transfer of the plurality of paper sheets (100) by comparing the output from the receiver-side ultrasonic sensor (18) with the threshold vale.
