A paper feeding device (1), comprising a paper feed stand for placing a plurality of sheets thereon in the stacked state, a scraper roll (3) acting a conveying force on an uppermost sheet placed on the paper feed stand, a guide plate (4) installed on the downstream lower side of the scraper roll (3) in the conveying direction and disposed over the generally entire lateral area of the sheets, a separating plate (5) installed on the downstream lower side of the guide plate (4) in the conveying direction, and a pickup roll (6) disposed over the separating plate, the guide plate (4) further comprising right and left sheet limiting sloped surfaces (4a) disposed near the right and left sides of the separating plate and gradually raised toward the downstream side in the sheet conveying direction and right and left sheet guiding sloped surfaces (4b) disposed on the outside of the right and left sheet limiting sloped surfaces (4a) and having sloped angles smaller than those of the sheet limiting sloped surfaces (4a).
