Title:
PAPER-FREE LOCAL FLYER ADVERTISING (A TECHNOLOGY METHOD OF LOCALIZED INTERNET ADVERTISING)
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2009/006722
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
PFLFA is using a real-life scenario of paper-based local flyer advertising as a base to build the foundation of PFLFA. PFLFA is a rational alternative to all previous types of advertisements that are commonly implemented with the name of so-called 'local advertisements'. PFLFA is a) an environment friendly method that reduces use of paper by millions of local establishments as the only source of running short-run advertisements in millions of communities, b) localized Internet advertisements. PFLFA implementation essentially needs an input (web surfer's street address, or zip code, or boundary) with the options of narrowing the output with a) content filtering, b) proximity range, to reduce the size of an output result. Greener choice, and 'Fair advertisement' are important elements of PFLFA.

Claim:

What is claimed are:

1. A data processing system that is implemented on the Internet.

(a) Start (in diagrams) means the initialization of a computer based program routine;

(b) Input means the STDIN (standard input) used by a computer-based program to call a second sub-process;

(c) Output means the STDOUT (standard output) used by a computer based program to display a set of results;

(d) Default location means the existing physical location of a web surfer (e.g. he/she lives in zip code of 12345);

(e) The web surfer could be a) a web surfer interested to see the local PFLFA or, b) a business owner that is subscribing to PFLFA system offered by an internet advertisement provider web site.

(f) Internet advertisement provider means an Internet company that is actively have a connection to millions of web surfers around the world. Usually are giving a set of free services (e.g. search engines) to attract web surfers.;

(g) Web surfer means a person that is using a computer-based software (e.g. called Internet browsers) to navigate through Internet (or World Wide Web);

(h) Geo Code means a geographic location code (e.g. Latitude and Longitude of a physical address or a location) for a given physical location on the map; (i) End means the termination of a given computer based program routine or a subroutine;

2. PFLFA is a real world scenario/template that enables a high-traffic web site to become a) environmentally greener, b) more profitable.

3. PFLFA is a solution to localized Internet advertisement crisis.

4. Previous types of advertisement on the Internet did not succeed to localized because these types of Internet based advertisements technically could not attach business owners with millions of online consumers using a real-life template like PFLFA.

Description:

Description:

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Only about 38% of paper used by industry is from recycled paper, the rest comes from 4 billion-tree cut worldwide; this is an environmental disaster. Using paper for promoting local advertising campaigns or local flyer advertisements, or short-run flyers has been part of our industrial culture for years. The growing demand for paper has never been higher. PFLFA (Paper-Free Local Flyer Advertising) method intended to mainly reduce this paper crisis. The success of PFLFA movement depends on positive response by people or consumers globally; however, consumers should respond positively to greener choices that provide easer/faster access to local deals. PFLFA will encourage more consumers/establishments to use Internet; this also has an essential role in success of PFLFA movement.

PFLFA and its green factor:

It is time for civilized societies to adapt using the Internet as a practical tool for day-today business activities. The demand for paper in industrial and development countries has been growing in an outrageous figure (e.g. more than 30% every year). Reducing this demand has a short and long term benefit to the earth's green space. More than 4 billion trees are cut down each year to supply the world's paper demand (about 28% for paper usage). Unfortunately, this demand would not stop if humans would not change their habit of using paper. PFLFA is a small step to end the demand for paper as the major source for the local flyer advertisings. However, this movement hopes to have a 100% paper-free society for the most day-to-day business activities.

Beneficial to both consumers and establishments:

Since the birth of the modern Internet, businesses always are looking to adapt themselves to the fast paste of the Internet technology. However, the leading Internet companies are not adapting themselves to: a) A 100% paper-free method of advertising, b) 'Fair Advertising' method, that to give a 'fair chance' to any size company to promote its products or services. High bidders for the Internet advertisements are those with the higher advertisement budgets. This 'reduces the chance' for a successful advertisement campaign for small and medium size companies. PFLFA would cause a positive feedback because: a) It is time to use the internet technology for the day-to-day business activities; b) it is logical/rational alternative to end paper-based local flyer advertisements; c) It is efficient alternative to paper-based local advertising when it comes to saving time, money, and ease of use; d) consumers are smart and logically would choose those alternatives that are greener and fair in nature.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention provides a data processing system and method for localized the Internet advertising. PFLFA method is using a real-life template (that is paper-based local flyer advertising) to implement itself.

Characteristics and capabilities:

. Real world scenario (template) that enables a high-traffic web site to become a) environmentally greener, b) more profitable

. Both consumers and business owners could use the power of Internet and the technology for the cause of greener environment

. PFLFA is a practical method to attach local establishments to the millions of consumers

. PFLFA is practically a 'short-run' advertisement, but not entirely

. Dynamic, establishments have capability of modifying their contents of paper-free active advertising campaigns

. Using paper for promoting local advertisement is inefficient and it is an environment disaster

. Free service for Internet surfers (pc, mobile devices), business owners/establishments will pay for their active advertisement campaigns

. Localizing Internet advertisements

. Boosts local economy

. Global Internet advertisement did not meet the demand of local establishments for easer/efficient/low-cost/environmentally safe method of advertising

. Traditionally local TV, radio, newspaper, paper-flyers were the only alternative to promote products/services, however, PFLFA is more efficient alternative to the above

. Advertisements by bigger corporations have more chance of appearing on the first pages of the busy Internet websites because these corporations have bigger budget for advertisements. PFLFA intends to end to this by prioritizing to the nearest

Latitude/Longitude (Geo code) to a given input (street address, zip code, boundary);

PFLFA using Fair Advertisement method

. Global Internet advertisement did not meet the demand of local establishments for easer, efficient, low-cost, environmentally safe method of advertising

. PFLFA will enable hidden economy (Businesses that never used internet as the main source of their local flyer advertisement campaigns, e.g. Auto Industries, Automobile dealers, and so on) to flourish.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a Flowchart diagram representation of a top-level logic to implement PFLFA. In here, the process will input street address, or zip code, or boundary by the web surfer. Another input is a default distance proximity (e.g. 5 miles) that is keyed by the system but changeable option by web surfer choice. Process 200 will convert default (e.g. zip code) to Geo Code (Latitude/Longitude) and process 300 will bring back the result produced by the above inputs to represent the active advertisement campaigns in the web surfer's location.

FIG 2. This is process 200 that is detailing on the input of zip code (e.g.) and returns the Geo Code representing the Latitude/Longitude of a physical address.

FIG 3. This is process 300 that is showing how to return all or some of the records that is met the criteria in figure 1.

FIG 4. This is a high-level technical implementation of PFLFA for those that want to participate in PFLFA campaigns. This is PFLFA for establishments/business owners.

FIG 5. This is process 400 that details on the inputs (e.g. business name, address, business territories (that is all associated zip codes that a business serves its customers), and so on.

This process also have a sub-process 500 that is isolated to distinguish the importance of this module.

FIG 6. This is an overview of the existing situation that we all face currently. In here, the diagram intends to summarize on the end-less loop of using paper for driving the local economy.

FIG 7. This is a solution proposed by PFLFA. It is intended to give a global aspect to PFLFA method. The diagram advises on a 3D model (PFLFA cubes) that could be used when PFLFA is technically implemented. The design part of this 3D (or none 3D model) should emphasis on ease of use and usefulness of PFLFA with regards to consumer attraction and other factors of visual design.
