Abstract:

The present invention provides a paper sheet identification device and a paper sheet identification method that are able to deal with a greater variety of requests. The present invention pertains to a paper sheet identification device for performing a process to identify a paper sheet in conveyance, and is characterized by being provided with a standard identification unit and an option attachment/detachment unit to/from which an option identification unit can be attached/detached, wherein: the standard identification unit comprises a standard sensor unit at least including an optical line sensor, and a standard control unit which controls the standard sensor unit and identifies the type of the paper sheet on the basis of an output of the standard sensor unit; and the option identification unit comprises an option sensor unit which performs a different type of sensing from that performed by the standard sensor unit, and an option control unit which controls the option sensor unit.
