Abstract:
Light-emitting units (12a, 12b) irradiate the surface of a paper sheet with light from mutually different directions. A control unit (120) causes light to be radiated from the light-emitting unit (12a) and causes first reflected light to be detected by a light-receiving unit (11), and moreover causes light to be radiated from the light-emitting unit (12b) and causes second reflected light to be detected by the light-receiving unit (11). A processing unit (130) receives intensity values pertaining to the first and second reflected light detected by the light-receiving unit (11), and performs a quantification process on each unit region of the surface of the paper sheet, the quantification process including a computation for dividing the smaller of the intensity values pertaining to the first and second reflected light by the greater of said intensity values.
