Title:
PARALLEL PLATE-TYPE NON-UNIFORM ELECTRIC FIELD ION MOBILITY SPECTROMETRY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2016/143030
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
In the present invention, an ion separation space (15) between plate electrodes (11, 12) has disposed therein rod electrodes (16, 17) that are parallel to these electrodes and parallel to one another. An asymmetric pulse voltage is applied to the plate electrodes (11, 12), and a high electric field and low electric field are formed in alternation in the ion separation space (15). A voltage obtained by adding an appropriate direct current voltage to a voltage obtained by dividing the asymmetric pulse voltage with a resistance is applied to the rod electrodes (16, 17). At a given point in time, the outer margins of the rod electrodes (16, 17) will be at a predetermined potential, and therefore an electric field having a curved equipotential plane bulging out in the Y-axis direction is formed in the space between these electrodes. This electric field causes ions moving through a buffer gas flow to also be subject to forces of convergence in the X-axis direction and Y-axis direction while traveling in a zigzag. Due to this configuration, ions of different mobility ratios can be separated into layers by mobility ratio, each converging into an ion flow that is then emitted from the ion separation space (15). As a result, the ion permeability and separation performance are both improved.
