Abstract:
This parking assistance device (20) is mounted in a vehicle (10) and configured so as to assist in parking the vehicle in a parking space (PS). This parking assistance device comprises: an imaging unit (22) which acquires image information corresponding to an image of the surroundings of the vehicle; an image processing unit which processes the image information acquired by the imaging unit, thereby recognizing a characteristic shape in the image; an obstacle detection unit which acquires positional relationship information corresponding to the positional relationship between an obstacle present around the parking space and the vehicle; and a parking method selection unit which selects a method for parking the vehicle in a parking space from among a plurality of candidate methods, including parallel parking and perpendicular parking, on the basis of the characteristic shape recognized by the image processing unit and the positional relationship information acquired by the obstacle detection unit.
