A parking lock mechanism (100) selectively restricting rotation of a target rotation member (T), which rotates in conjunction with a wheel of a vehicle, and comprising: a lock member (4) that is supported in a manner disallowing rotation relative to a non-rotation member (NR), and can move to a locked position (P1), where the same engages with the target rotation member (T) and restricts rotation of the target rotation member (T), and an unlocked position (P2), where the same separates from the target rotation member (T) and allows rotation of the target rotation member (T); and a drive device (5) that drives the lock member (4), wherein the drive device (5) comprises a position retention part (6) that uses the magnetic force of a permanent magnet (61) supported by the lock member (4) to retain the lock member (4) in each of the locked position (P1) and the unlocked position (P2), and an electromagnetic drive part (7) that uses an electromagnetic force produced by power from a power source to move the lock member (4) from the unlocked position (P2) to the locked position (P1) and move the lock member (4) from the locked position (P1) to the unlocked position (P2).
