Abstract:

The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a partially split fiber bundle, which is for forming fiber-reinforced resin molding material with excellent mechanical properties and with which it is possible to form chopped fibers of more uniform split-fiber width; and a production method that makes it possible to provide said partially split fiber bundle continuously and stably. A partially split fiber bundle comprising split sections and unsplit sections is characterized in that when the split number An per unit width (number/mm), which is the number of fiber bundles contained in the width direction (split number: Nn) divided by the total width Wn [mm] of the partially split fiber bundle, is calculated at any position Pn (n being an integer 1–100 and the distance between any position Pn and position Pn +1 excluding n=100 being at least 50 cm) of the partially split fiber bundle, the ratio Amax/Amin of the maximum value Amax (number/mm) to the minimum value Amin (number/mm) is 1.1–3.
