Abstract:
The purposes of the present invention are: to provide a particle stabilizer which enables a multicolor coating material to be stably stored, that is, a particle stabilizer which gives color particles having excellent stability; and to provide a process for easily producing a multicolor coating material that has excellent storage stability. The particle stabilizer for multicolor coating materials of the present invention is characterized by comprising a (co)polymer (A) obtained from one or more monomers that include an ethylenic carboxylic acid (salt) as an essential constituent monomer and having a weight-average molecular weight of 50,000-1,000,000. It is preferable that the ethylenic carboxylic acid salt be an alkali metal salt, an amine salt, or a quaternary organic ammonium salt. It is preferable that the (co)polymer (A) have a molecular-weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 2.5-6.0. It is preferable that the particle stabilizer should further contain a water-soluble polyhydric alcohol (B).
