This particulate filter comprises: a substrate 10 with a wall flow structure that has a porous separation wall 16 separating an entry-side cell 12 and an exit-side cell 14; and a washcoat layer 20 that is retained in an interior section of the separation wall 16. This washcoat layer 20 comprises an entry-side layer 22 that is formed in a prescribed length and thickness from the vicinity of an end section on an exhaust gas inflow side X1, and an exit-side layer 24 that is formed in a prescribed length and thickness from the vicinity of an end section on an exhaust gas outflow side X2, and the entry-side layer 22 and the exit-side layer 24 partially overlap. Additionally, in this particulate filter, the entry-side layer 22 substantially does not include a precious metal catalyst, and the exit-side layer 24 does include a precious metal catalyst. Consequently, the particulate matter (PM) collection ability of an entry-side region is easily increased, and a gas ventilation property (pressure loss suppression ability) of an exit-side region can be maintained at a high level. Thus, the present invention can provide a particulate filter that can achieve both PM collection ability and pressure loss suppression ability at a high level.
