A particulate matter collection device is provided with: a collection unit having a collection section for collecting particulate matter contained in the atmosphere by causing the particulate matter to deposit on the collection section; a housing having an air passage section for exposing the collection section to the atmosphere, the housing also having a receiving section for receiving the collection section, the air passage section and the receiving section being provided integrally within the housing; a support section for movably supporting within the housing the collection unit and enabling the collection section to move between the air passage section and the receiving section; a drive section for moving the collection unit to move the collection section between the air passage section and the receiving section; and a controller for controlling the operation of the drive section. A mark is applied to at least a part of the collection unit, and the receiving section has a transparent section through which the position of the mark applied to the received collection unit can be ascertained from the outside.
