Abstract:
A penicillin and cephalosporin compound having a phenylacetic acid or phenoxyacetic acid content of 100 ppm or lower; and a process for producing a penicillin and cephalosporin compound which comprises extracting two or more times phenylacetic acid or phenoxyacetic acid from an aqueous solution resulting from elimination of a group protecting the 6-amino group of a penicillin or cephalosporin compound with an organic solvent and, at the time when phenylacetic acid or phenoxyacetic acid comes not to be detected, adjusting the pH of the solution to the isoelectric point to thereby precipitate crystals.
