Abstract:
The present invention relates to a peptide and to a use therefor, the peptide exhibiting the growth activity of epithelial cells (keratinocytes) and fibroblasts comprised in the skin, and comprising an amino acid sequence represented by the following general formula: X1-Leu-X2-Glu-X3-Glu-X4, where X1 is Met, Ile, Phe, His, Lys, Arg, Glu or Ile, X2 is Lys, Arg, His or Asn, X3 is Trp, Gly His, Tyr or Arg, and X4 is Leu, Asp, Asn or Phe. The skin-cell growth peptide of the present invention is advantageous in that, as compared with natural EGF, said peptide has a lower molecular weight characteristic and thus highly outstanding skin permeability while at the same time having the same skin-cell growth ability. Consequently, a composition containing the peptide of the present invention is outstandingly efficacious in treating, preventing or alleviating a disease or condition in which EGF activity is required, and thus can be used in drugs, quasi-drugs, cosmetics and the like.
