Title:
PERIPHERAL OBJECT DETECTION DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2013/157123
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention addresses the issue of providing a peripheral object detection device capable of high-precision determination of objects that are an impediment to vehicle travel, and lower objects. This invention is a peripheral object detection device that is mounted to a vehicle, detects objects that are an impediment to vehicle travel, and is characterized by: transmitting electromagnetic waves by using a radar; receiving reflected electromagnetic waves and obtaining the reflection strength; adding up the reflection strength obtained by the radar, at prescribed distance intervals; and determining whether or not the object that reflected the radar electromagnetic waves is a lower object that is not an impediment to vehicle travel, on the basis of an integrated value for reflection strength. In particular, determinations that compare the integrated value for reflection strength to a threshold value and determinations that compare the integrated value for reflection strength at a first relative distance to the integrated value for reflection strength at a second relative distance that is further than the first relative distance are suitable as determinations on the basis of the integrated value for reflection strength.
