A person recognition based photo encryption and decryption method and system, and a mobile terminal, which are applied to a mobile terminal. The method comprises: step 1, pre-establishing a confidential database (S1), a first key for encrypting/decrypting the confidential database, a second key for encrypting/decrypting a photo specified by a user and having a target person and multiple reference photos for comparing and having face pictures of the target person being pre-stored in the confidential database to improve the recognition of the target person; and step 2, after a mobile terminal enters a photo taking state, recognizing the shot photo according to the reference photos pre-stored in the confidential database so as to obtain a first photo having a face picture of the target person, and performing predefined encryption operation on the first photo to generate an encrypted second photo (S2). In the method, only a face picture of a target person is encrypted, accordingly the operation amount of picture coding is reduced, the response speed of an electronic device is accelerated, and personal privacy of the target person can be fully protected.
