Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition, a cosmetic composition and a functional food composition containing, as an active ingredient, extracts of Smilax glabra which is a rhizome of Smilax china, and are effective for allergic diseases. More particularly, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition, a cosmetic composition and a functional food composition which contain extracts of Smilax glabra which can be dissolved in a polar solvent, and therefore, are effective for allergic diseases such as atopic dermatitis which is globally increasing. The present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition, a cosmetic composition and a functional food composition containing, as an active ingredient, a single extract of Smilax glabra. Thus, the compositions of the present invention may not cause side effects, resistance and toxicity even when the composition is administered over a long period of time, may decrease the concentration of cytokine of IgE, Th2 and Th1 in serum, which plays a significant role in the occurrence of immune diseases, may inhibit the secretion of histamine of mast cell and pro-inflammatory active material, may inhibit the immune hypersensitivity reaction mediated by the histamine or pro-inflammatory active material, may reduce dermatitis index, and may reduce the infiltration and activity of mast cell or skin tissue, thus reducing the occurrence of allergic inflammation and chronic inflammatory process.
