Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating interleukin-6 (IL-6)-mediated diseases comprising a Rosa rugosa flower extract as an active ingredient and to a method for treating IL-6-mediated diseases comprising the step of administering said composition to a subject with a suspected IL-6-mediated disease. The present invention also relates to a food composition, quasi-drug composition, and feed composition for preventing or remedying IL-6-mediated diseases, comprising a Rosa rugosa flower extract as an active ingredient. The present invention can be usefully used in the prevention or treatment of IL-6-mediated diseases, e.g. metabolic bone diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, or atopic dermatitis, by inhibiting a signaling pathway induced by IL-6 and suppressing osteoclast differentiation and, in particular, has no cytotoxicity unlike extracts of other parts and can be advantageously used in the treatment of said diseases without side effects by being derived from natural products used as food for a long time.
