Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a pharmaceutical composition or method which is widely applicable to myopathies accompanying a decrease in muscle strength and can increase muscle strength or delay the progression of a decrease in muscle strength. A further purpose of the present invention is to provide a pharmaceutical composition or method which can be used in the treatment or prevention of, as examples of myopathies, muscular dystrophy or sarcopenia. An additional purpose of the present invention is to provide a composition or method which can induce differentiation into muscle cells. Provided is a therapeutic agent or prophylactic agent for myopathies which contains parathyroid hormone (PTH) or a PTH derivative as an active ingredient. The therapeutic agent or prophylactic agent for myopathies can be used for the treatment or prevention of muscular dystrophy or sarcopenia. Further provided is a differentiation-inducing agent which contains parathyroid hormone (PTH) or a PTH derivative and induces differentiation of muscle satellite cells or pluripotent stem cells derived from mammals into muscle cells.
