Abstract:
A transmitted signal is based at least in part on a phase encoded signal. A variable frequency synthesizer is used during generation of the phase encoded signal. The frequency synthesizer operates under the control of a control signal generated by a waveform generator. The control signal is derived from a signal that is pre-distorted so as to compensate for band limiting effects of the frequency synthesizer. A frequency deviation may be calculated by the waveform generator using an estimate of the actual phase of the previous time interval based on an integer representation of the frequency deviation associated with the earlier time interval rather than on the ideal phase of the previous time interval.
