Provided is a phase synchronization loop type frequency synthesizer comprising a reference oscillator for generating a reference signal, a voltage-controlled oscillator for generating a high-frequency signal, a variable frequency divider for dividing the frequency of the high-frequency signal to output a synchronizing signal, a phase comparator for comparing the reference signal and the synchronizing signal to output a phase-compared signal, and a loop filter for outputting a control signal for the voltage-controlled oscillator on the basis of the phase-compared signal. Further comprised is a frequency/phase control circuit for generating frequency control data in synchronism with either the synchronizing signal or the reference signal on the basis of set data inputted from the outside to give an output frequency and set data inputted from the outside to give a phase to the reference signal, thereby to output the frequency control data generated, to the variable frequency divider.
