Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a system (130) that uses linear actuators (132, 134) to generate a torque on a shaft (102). In an example implementation, the system (130) may include a shaft (102) and an attached cam (110). The cam (110) includes an involute portion. The system (130) also includes a first linear actuator (132) and a second linear actuator (134) configured to move along a first axis (140) and a second axis (142), respectively. The linear actuators (132, 134) are configured to detachably couple to the cam (110) based on at least a reference angle of the shaft (102). That is, as the shaft (102) rotates about its rotational axis (104) at the reference angle, the first and the second linear actuators (132, 134) may couple to, and decouple from, various portions of the cam (110). As the linear actuators (132, 134) couple to, and decouple from, the various portions of the cam (110), different rotational torques and/or different ranges of such torques may be imparted onto the shaft (102).
