A phosphorescent material comprising particles of at least one phosphorescent substance selected among a phosphorescent substance comprising a compound represented by the following formula (1) as mother crystals, a phosphorescent substance comprising a compound represented by the following formula (2) as mother crystals, and a phosphorescent substance represented by the following formula (3) and, bonded to the surface of the particles, at least one surface-treating agent selected among (a) a silane compound having an aliphatic group, (b) a titanate compound having an aliphatic group, and (c) a zirconate compound having an aliphatic group. MAl¿2?O¿4? (1) (In the formula, M represents at least one element selected among calcium, strontium, and barium.).Sr¿4?Al¿14?O¿25?
