Abstract:
The present invention includes: a puncture needle (15) that has a photoacoustic wave generation unit that absorbs light and generates photoacoustic waves; a photoacoustic wave detection unit (20) that has a piezoelectric element array in which a plurality of piezoelectric elements that detect the photoacoustic waves are arranged; a control unit (28) that specifies a portion of the piezoelectric element groups in the piezoelectric element array and obtains a detection signal of the reception area of the whole piezoelectric element array by switching between the piezoelectric element groups; a photoacoustic image generation unit (24) that generates a photoacoustic image on the basis of the detection signal of the photoacoustic waves; and a distal position detection unit (29) that detects the position of the distal portion of the puncture needle (15) on the basis of the photoacoustic image. The control unit (28) specifies the portion of the piezoelectric element groups on the basis of the position of the distal portion of the puncture needle (15) detected by the distal position detection unit (29).
