Abstract:
The invention provides photocatalyst-containing water-based curable coating compositions capable of forming cured coating films which are excellent in durability to oxidative decomposition action of photocatalysts, cracking resistance, weathering resistance and stain resistance; and a process for production of the coating compositions. A photocatalyst-containing water-based curable coating composition which comprises both an aqueous dispersion (X1) consisting of a solution or dispersion in an aqueous medium of a composite resin (ABC) composed of a composite resin (AB) formed by chemically bonding a polymer segment (A) having neutralized acidgroups to a polysiloxane segment (B) and a polysiloxane segment (C) resulting from an alkyltrialkoxysilane condensate (c) whose alkyl groups each have 1 to 3 carbon atoms and which is bonded to the polysiloxane segment (B) of the composite resin (AB) through a silicon-oxygen linkage and photocatalyst oxide fine particles (D) dispersed in the solution or dispersion or an aqueous dispersion (X2) consisting of an aqueous medium and resin particles dispersed in the medium which particles are each composed of the composite resin (ABC) and photocatalyst oxide fine particles (D) enveloped in the composite resin (ABC), and a curing agent (E) for thecomposite resin (ABC); and a process for the production of the coating composition.
