Abstract:
This metal-complex dye can be represented by formula (I). This photoelectric conversion element has a conductive support, an electrolyte-containing photoreceptor layer, an electrolyte-containing charge-transfer-material layer, and a counter electrode. The photoreceptor layer contains semiconductor particles supporting the metal-complex dye that can be represented by formula (I). This dye-sensitized solar cell is provided with the aforementioned photoelectric conversion element.

In formula (I), M1 represents a metal atom; LA represents a tridentate ligand that can be represented by formula (AL-1); LD represents a bidentate ligand that can be represented by formula (DL-1); Z1 represents a monodentate ligand; Za through Zc each represent a group of nonmetallic atoms that form a five- or six-membered ring; at least one of the rings formed by Za, Zb, and Zc has an acidic group; X represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a selenium atom, N(Ra), C(Rb)2, or Si(Rb)2; Ra and Rb each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an aromatic group; na represents either 0 or 1; nb represents an integer from 1 to 3; the sum of na and nb is greater than or equal to 2; Rc represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, an alkylthio group, or an amino group; and E represents a specific nitrogen-containing five-membered aromatic group.
