Abstract:
Provided is an economical photoelectric conversion element that is provided with a photoelectric conversion layer for which morphology in the film thickness direction thereof is controlled by an inexpensive method, that exhibits high photoelectric conversion efficiency, and that has excellent photoelectric conversion performance. In the photoelectric conversion element, the photoelectric conversion layer is sandwiched between an anode and a cathode, wherein said photoelectric conversion layer comprises n-type organic semiconductors (3), and crystallized sections (1) and non-crystallized sections (2) of p-type semiconductive polymers that have, as the principal chain thereof, an annelation π-conjugated skeleton which includes at least one thiophene ring in the chemical structure thereof. The amount of sulfur atoms existing in the film-thickness direction of the photoelectric conversion layer is indicated by the following formula (1) (wherein a is the slope, and b is the intercept), which is a first approximate straight line in a graph that has the film thickness of the photoelectric conversion layer normalized as 1 plotted as the X axis, and has the maximum value of the amount of sulfur atoms existing in the film-thickness direction normalized as 1 plotted as the Y axis, and the absolute value of a is not less than 0.07 and not more than 1.2.
