Abstract:
This device converts light with a high conversion efficiency into a storable and transportable chemical substance which has high availability. This photoelectrochemical reaction device is provided with a photovoltaic layer which has a first surface and second surface opposite of each other and brings about charge separation by means of the energy of the light irradiated onto the first surface or the second surface, an oxidation electrode layer which is electrically connected to the first surface of the photoelectric layer and which oxidizes water, a reduction electrode layer which is electrically connected to the second surface of the photovoltaic layer and which reduces water and/or carbon dioxide, a first electrolyte which contains water and is supplied to the oxidation electrode layer, a second electrolyte which contains water and/or carbon dioxide and which is supplied to the reduction electrode layer, and a porous layer which is in contact with at least the first electrolyte or the second electrolyte, has pores for passing the reaction products of oxidation or reduction, and refines said products by application of a temperature gradient.
