Abstract:
Provided is a photoelectron multiplier having a constitution for improving response
time characteristics. The photoelectron multiplier has an photoelectron multiplying
unit composed of an upper stage unit and a lower stage unit. The upper stage unit
includes converging electrodes (230), a mesh electrode, and first dynodes (DY1),
at which photoelectrons from photo-cathodes arrive, of dynodes of a plurality
of stages. The first dynodes have a larger length (L1) in the longitudinal direction
than that of the gap (L2) between a pair of insulating support members (310a, 310b).
By this constitution, the effective region size of the electron multiplying
channels assigned can be arbitrarily set without being restricted by the paired
insulating support members.
